Dr. Olang'o Onudi
Chairman of the Board
Dr. Charles Olang'o Onudi is a seasoned medical professional and public health strategist with over four decades of transformative leadership in Kenya's healthcare sector. A University of Nairobi alumnus (MBChB, 1984) with a Master of Public Health from the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam, he served as Provincial Medical Officer across the Rift Valley, Western, Central and Eastern provinces, and later as County Secretary for Kisumu and CEC Member for Health in Siaya County. He is most renowned for his visionary tenure as Director and CEO of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) from 2009 to 2015, during which the college nearly tripled its campuses from 28 to 61. His recent appointment as Chairperson of the Board of Management for JOOTRH marks a strategic return to Nyanza's flagship health facility, where he first began as an intern in 1984.
Dr. Ouma Oluga
PS, State Department for Medical Services
Dr. Ouma Oluga is the Principal Secretary for Medical Services in the Ministry of Health, where he provides strategic leadership and policy direction for the delivery of healthcare services across the country. A seasoned medical practitioner, health systems expert and leader in the health sector, Dr. Oluga has extensive experience in healthcare management, policy development and advocacy for quality and equitable healthcare.
Ms. Riyak Ahmed Muhamed
Board Member
Mohamed Riyak Ahmed holds a Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from Kenya Methodist University (KEMU) and a Diploma in Nutrition from Nairobi Aviation College. She is an experienced nutrition professional with expertise in nutrition assessment, dietary counselling, health education and community-based nutrition interventions, currently serving as a Nutritionist at Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC) in Nairobi.
Dr. Zablon Mokua
Board Member
Dr. Zablon Mokua serves as a member of the Board of Management, contributing professional expertise and governance oversight to the strategic direction of JOOTRH as it continues its transformation into a premier national teaching and referral hospital.
Ms. Grace Essendi
Alternate Director
Ms. Grace Essendi is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with over fifteen years of post-admission experience. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Nairobi and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law, and is currently pursuing an MBA in Strategic Management at Maseno University. She serves as a Principal State Counsel at the Office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice and brings a wealth of legal expertise, leadership experience and strategic insight to the Board.
The Board of Management provides strategic direction, policy oversight and corporate governance for the hospital. It is constituted in accordance with the provisions of the Health Act and relevant government guidelines.
The Board works closely with the Chief Executive Officer and the executive management team to ensure the hospital delivers on its mandate of providing high-quality specialised healthcare, teaching and research.
